The 4 Series was created when BMW spun off the 2-door coupe and convertible of the 3 Series into a separate series. The engines available are either turbocharged or plug-in hybrids. The drivetrain is either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive which is called xDrive for all four wheels. Top competitors to the 4 Series have been the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A5, Lexus RC and Infiniti Q60. The BMW M4 is the high-performance version of the 4 Series. It is considered a good small luxury car, is little larger than the 3 Series and a bit smaller than the 5 Series.
